Are you bothered by the appearance of droopy eyelids that have appeared over time? If so, you may be able to benefit from Upneeq! This eyedrop is a great solution to low-lying lids, opening up the eyes for a more alert and awake appearance.
What is Upneeq?
Upneeq is the only FDA-approved prescription eyedrop for acquired ptosis or low-lying lids, that lifts your upper eyelids to open your eyes. Upneeq contains oxymetazoline, an alpha-adrenergic agonist that triggers the levator palpebrae muscle (Muller’s or Mueller’s muscle), causing the muscle to contract and raise the upper eyelid.
Acquired ptosis can affect eyesight by blocking your vision and also reducing your field of vision which can impact reading, driving, and other everyday functions. This treatment is only available through dermatologists, aesthetic practices, medical spas, and eye care professionals.
Is Upneeq Right for Me?
Healthy adults with low-lying lids who are looking to achieve a more energized appearance can often benefit from Upneeq. However, be sure to let us know if you have heart disease, high or low blood pressure, Sjogren’s syndrome, or narrow-angle glaucoma, as Upneeq may not be the best treatment option for you. What Happens During Upneeq Treatment?
Applying Upneeq is quick and easy. First, you will cut open the foil wrapper and remove the single-use vial. Next, apply one drop of Upneeq into each eye as directed, once a day. Be sure not to reuse any vials after use.
If you wear contact lenses, remove them before applying Upneeq; you may put them back into your eyes 15 minutes after. We also advise waiting 15 minutes after using Upneeq to use any other eye drops.
Each dose (one drop daily) of Upneeq has been shown to be effective for at least six hours. Rare side effects may include eye irritation, redness, dry eye, headache, and blurry vision. If you experience any of these symptoms, please reach out to our office.
