Over time, it’s normal to become frustrated with signs of aging. Although aging is a perfectly natural process, it can be defeating when you look older than you feel. Although many people think of surgery as the best option for facial rejuvenation, injectable treatments are an excellent alternative. Here’s what to know about two of the most popular options and how they can help.
What is Juvederm?
Juvederm is an injectable filler that uses synthetic hyaluronic acid to restore volume to the face. It can fill in lines and wrinkles that form over time because of age-related volume loss. There are a few different types of Juvederm:
- Juvederm Ultra XC treats the area around the mouth and lips
- Juvederm Volbella XC adds volume to the areas around the lips
- Juvederm Vollure XC addresses the lines around the nose and mouth
- Juvederm Volume XC can add plumpness to the cheeks
- Juvederm XC can treat fine and deep lines around the mouth and nose
The XC formulas include lidocaine to minimize pain and discomfort from the treatment. During a consultation with an experienced injector, you can discuss the best filler options for you.
What is Botox?
Botox is a non-invasive neuromodulator that can treat wrinkles and fine lines. It works differently than fillers – instead it uses a form of botulimuntoxin Type A which can block chemical movement signals from the brain when injected into the facial muscles. This process relaxes the folds and furrows that form in areas like the brows and around the eyes. Botox can also be used for:
- Vertical lines between the eyebrows
- Crow’s feet
- Forehead wrinkles
- Eyelid twitching
- Crossed eyes
- Excessive sweating
- Incontinence
- Migraines
- Muscle spasticity
How Long Do Treatment Sessions Take?
Both Juvederm and Botox procedures are quick but vary depending on the patient. However, Juvederm generally shows results faster than Botox. Juvederm treatment takes around 15 minutes to one hour, but the length of time for the procedure depends on the number of injections you get and the treated area. Injections can be felt but are not painful.
Botox treatment also takes a few minutes to administer. However, depending on the treatment area, you might need more or fewer injections. When multiple injections are needed, treatment takes longer. You can usually begin seeing the results of your treatment within 24 to 48 hours, but it can take up to two weeks for your full results to emerge.
Which Treatment is Better?
While both Juvederm and Botox provide quick results, Juvederm gives you faster results. This is due to the gel component. It also tends to last longer than Botox and may last up to two years. By contrast, Botox results fade faster and require additional treatment sessions every 3-4 months.
Whether you decide that Juvederm or Botox is more appropriate for you is a very personal choice. You may make your decision based on the area you need treated and how long you need your results to last. Additionally, both options can be effectively combined for best results.
